I have just bought the driving test DVD but have now discovered my DVD drive appears to be faulty. After inserting the DVD - no autorun, nothing. The drive light flashes for two or three times then goes out. I have tried searching for the DVD drive via 'my computer' but its not there. The CD drive (E:/) is there but not the DVD drive. I am running windows XP.
Any help would be apprecited

I have an update on this.
When I look in device manager, both the CD and DVD drives are present, but there is a red cross over the DVD one and if you double click it, it says this driver is disabled (this device is disabled - code 22) If I then double click it and then click 'enable devices' a message appears saying 'windows was not able to enable this device'
Should I be thinking of taking the PC into a repair shop now, or is there anything else I can try

Sorry, I seem to be answering my own posts. but the problem has now been solved. I was searching the forum and found some earlier advice given by 'Burr Walnut' which was to delete the disabled drive via device manager and reboot.
This seem to have done the trick as all is working fine now.

It's a fairly common problem it seems. Thanks for the feedback.
