This might be really simple to sort but i dont have a clu how to so I am looking for your help again !
I have AOL as my ISP and have previously used their browser for the net. However, after using IE7 I have decided that it is my preferred option.
Problem is, I sign in to AOL to get an internet connection and then minimise it. Then I open IE7 but the AOL page keeps popping up over the top of it which is really frustrating.
If you can guide me in the direction of sorting this out it would be much appreciated.
Hows about you freaking get rid of AOL lol! It is extremely slow, and you can get probably get 1.5 mbps internet (26x faster than AOL) for cheaper than you are paying now. Just switch ISP's so you don't have to use AOL's terrible software and you can use any browser you want.
Thanks, but doesnt really solve my problem ! Im 8 months into an 18 month contract which supplies up to 8mb. Speed tests generally indicate I get around 5mb which aint to bad.
Anyway back to the original issue.....................
I have both a Netscape router and a BB Voyager modem running and I'll clear up the AOL Connection once and for all(should be applicable to Other ISPs with the same configuration
A) You connect to AOL Broadband via a Voyager Modem (or similar) You Must Log on in the Normal manner OK But B) Having the wireless router running (have you got it as a free update? Must ask AOL Member services for it if you've been forgotten Just Click on the IE icon and you are online ...easy as that! (no login to AOL ) To get to AOL to read your Email Save this address as a Favourite in Internet Explorer to Access a revised AOL browserpage http://webmail.aol.com And I strongly recommend Installing IE7 To view it
Only Con If you have many Favorites stored on the Normal browser you have to find a way of converting them to IE Favourites, and the only way I know is to signup to www.linkagogo.com ,and Upload them to that site(is secure ) and download them (converted to IE Favourites) In reality that site is a good holding area for storing Favourites can access it from anywhere and its Free (so long as you don't go Mad) I have just over 1200 stored there Automatically filters out duplicates and Builds up into an easily accessible Catalogue NOTE The converter Upload /Download routine is a bit fiddly to Begin with setting up Where the PFC file is But once you do Know the knack the trasfers will take a second Tops
TIP Do what I do when Saving Any AOL PFC file Name them as PFC then the "date" to Keep some sort of order Thus Today will be shown as PFC 190108.pfc So you have that as a reserve if needed(only small file of perhaps 10 to 20K?) Goes on a Pen drive with ease
If you Do not know how to Manipulate the AOL favourites I made a Big detailed posting quite a while back Showing what to do. Hitwise it went beserk in views You can get there via this link
The Information you need is towards the end of the posting (2 separate replies)
