Has anyone experience this?
      #379263 - Thu Jan 10 2008 03:42 PM

Hi All,

For a while now I have been hearing a low buzzing sound from my speakers that are connected to my computer. I just put it down to interference from my wireless router, as it is very close to one of the speakers.

I was starting to get fed up with the sound and recently I asked my father to move the router, as I can't do it myself. To cut a long story short, we discovered that my surge protection extension sockets was causing the problem. We changed the extension with a different 1 and still got the noise. So we tried an extension that didn't have a surge protector and the noise went. So I have found the surge protector in these extensions are causing a problem for speakers.

Has anyone got this problem and have you solved it?

Cheers

Are you definitely sure that it was the surge protector and not the router?

I have had a couple of surge protectors and never had any interference from them via my speakers, I did however get interference via a BT Voyager modem that got placed on my tower by accident.

Hi mouse,

Yes I'm quite sure it's the surge protectors, as we turned off the router as well as other things and not only that, the noise stops when an ordinary extension is used. I'm putting up with the noise, as I feel having the surge protector is better than nothing.

Cheers

I'm surprised that it was, blimey. What brand is/are the surge protector(s)?

I own Belkin and Masterplug and had no issues with either.

Just to check is there any loose connections with the speaker cabling, the jack in the back of the tower connected correctly?

If there are no further reasons and you can bear with the sound then I'm glad your persisting with the protectors as that makes sense.
