I've done some searche on Google etc but I still need some assitance on the following issue.
Over the past week my PC as been having problems starting up. I've had the dreaded Blue Screen of Death countless time and I've had to reboot in safe mode via system restore. At the moment I have had to restore to a date in the middle of December. Nothing new as been added recently so unsure that it is a hardware problem. I have saved my work onto disks and I have decided the best action is to return the PC to factory settings. I have a Master DVD ready to return my PC to factory settings. My question is
How do I go about using the DVD to reet to Factory settings? Can I run the DVD now or do I need to restart my PC? If so what is the procedure?
Like always all help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry I need to point out it is a CD not a DVD. I do not have the original XP disk that came with the PC (from PC World with it installed)
I have managed to get the PC working at the moment but I'd much rather prefer to reset to factory settings whilst I have all my work saved.

If it's a hardware problem, resetting it to factory settings isn't likely to help. You need to find out what hardware is the problem.
Right-click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab.
Click the Settings button underneath Startup and recovery, and remove the tick next to Automatically Restart, under Ssytem Failure.
If it crashes again, it should stop at the blue screen. Make a note of the Stop Code and post it here.

Hi Richie thanks for the reply.
I have had a look at the My Computer properties and there is no tick next to the Automatically Restart
I understand that returning to factory setting may not help

So do you get a stop code?
This sort of error is often caused by faulty RAM. If you have more than one stick, take one out and use it. If it doesn't crash you know the one taken out is faulty. If it does, swap them over and try again.
If it still crashes, next thing is to test the hard drive. Download a diagnostic utility from the manufacturer's website and test it.

Stop 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x804F9B74)
I have had a check on google but it doesn't give me too much information, I would very much appreciate the help on this.

I'd be checking RAM and the hard drive first. Have you updated any drivers recently?

Hi Richie. How do I check the RAM, and the Hard drive for any problems? Sorry if the answer is something simple.

If you only have one stick of RAM, download and create a bootable floppy or CD and use Memtest to test the RAM .leave it running for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.
To test the hard drive, take the side off the case and look to see who made it. Then find a diagnostic utility from their website, eg, type maxtor diagnostic utility into Google if it's a Maxtor.
Again, create a bootable floppy or CD.
