Right here goes... I had a lodger who was paying for a Sky broadband account under his name on my phone line and everthing was working fine. When he moved out I had to create a new account with Sky (they wouldn't let me simply switch the account holder name) and they subsequently asked for a MAC code. They will only give a MAC code to the original account holder and he's long gone and is not reachable. Should I need a MAC code when I'm effectively going from Sky to Sky? If so what can I do? Any advice is appreciated, both Sky and BT have been no help!
It doesn't make sense as to why when using the same provider they should need a MAC code, this code gives the new ISP authorisation to take over the line to supply broadband, so therefore the same provider shouldn't need permission from themselves.
Contact SKY back and ask them further to explain why they need a MAC code when they are the existing provider and new provider. Also explain what has happened re your lodger.
