My broadband is so slow!!! I have bt 8mb via ethernet or usb, and it takes me ages to load up a simple page like BT Yahoo home or hotmail. I have an emachines 80gb hdd, 512mb ram, and 2.3ghz celeron processor, is the computer the problem?? as my son lives 3 doors down from me on the same BT line and has the same 8mb broadband as i do but has a 2gb ram 400gb hdd and 2.3.ghz dual core 2 proccessor, and his is super quick as you would expect. do i need a new computer? Thanks

Sounds to me like it will be a problem with your phone line. I doubt 3 doors and a dual core processor would make the type of difference you are taking of!
Is there "crackling" on the telephone when you use it? If so that would be interference on the line and BT would need to be contacted.
Do some speed checks and make a record of them. Check with your ISP what speeds they class as a problem! For example you might pay for upto 8Mbps with them but you are only receiving a service of 512kbps. You would see this as a problem however I doubt very much they would! I think your speed has to be as low as 100kbps if not lower for the ISP or BT to take action and actually look at your line.
Are you both with the same ISP? Although you both have a BT line, if you are both with different ISP's, this will make a big difference, what with busy networks etc.
I used to achieve only around 2mbps with Eclipse but as soon as I moved ISP's I regularly get 3.8mbps.
I would start to look at your phoneline and ISP's before changing computer unnecessarily.
I will add you may have serious pc problems which is why you are running so slow. Make sure your pc is upto date with all windows updates along with running a virus scan (AVG Anti Virus), Spyware scan (Ad-Aware, Spybot) and maybe give it a clean up using CCleaner. All can be found here -

I hope this has helped somehow

I better add, the programs around the () are the ones I use. If you already have an anti virus program/spyware program which you are happy with just update it and run the scans
