Hi,
I've just bought a new 22 inch lcd tft Acer monitor for my pc. My pc is quite old (about 6 years) but has xp installed. The monitor works fine but I'm not sure what resolution etc I'm supposed to set it at. The text on screen looks a little blurred and all my photos etc are stretched to fill the widescreen screen. At the moment I've got it on 1024 x 768 resolution (as this seemed the best one), Colour Quality on highest 32bit, GeForce 2 MX/MX 400.
Do I need to get a new graphics card installed?
I'm a bit of a novice so you will need to reply in plain language please. Any advice?
Thank you,
Amanda

You might want to change it to a slightly higher resolution with having such a large screen, it will take time getting used to but will give you a better display.
Also have you got the latest drivers installed for your Graphics card?
Another thing, try using Clear Type effect, as found in the Appearance tab under the display settings.

I believe the native resolution of this screen is 1680 x 1050.
Have you tried it at that setting ?

Thanks for your replies. When I look at the resolutions that one is not listed. Only 1600x900 and 1600x1024 are the highest ones on the list. When I set it at either of these the screen look really weird!!
I have been through all of the different ones and now have it set at 1280x800 as all the others didn't look right. On this resolution my photos look correct (not stretched).
The thing that's bothering me now though is that the text on web pages looks blurred and seems to have a shadow, it is not clear at all. I thought that buying an LCD monitor would be better. If I got a new graphics card installed would that make it better?
My graphics card at the moment is NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400. Sorry about the long message, any suggestions would be most welcome.

Yes it would. Your current one isn't powerful enough to provide the native resolution that your new screen demands.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
