Hi All Our laptop hardly gets used now but I turned it on tonight mainly to update AVG and instead of booting up it says "error please check date and time" and then appears to be waiting for a password ? which we have never had. It does the same if I try to go into BIOS (F1) or use the only other option which is select boot (F12). I thought maybe the CMOS battery may have gone flat but I thought it would still load a default BIOS with this flat.
I do have an identical one for spares but has anyone any ideas before I start meddling It is/was running XP pro Many thanks Pete

Thanks fusion I hope it`s only that but remember on an old pc we had that when the cmos battery went it still booted but with an incorrect date and time. I will replace it (if I can find it) Thanks again pete
