I have had a (very long) search on this and other forums for an answer, but as yet i still have the problem .......................... I have a strange problem with my new wireless Lexmark X4580 printer.
I bought the printer friday and have been trying since then to solve the following problem.
I can add the printer to my wireless network just fine (through a D-link G604T router). And it all works great, too.
The problem i have is that my internet doesn't work once the printer is installed.
I have tried to add it to the network through my XP desktop and Vista laptop and the same thing happens.
I am very technically minded, have tried alsorts of settings and each and every time I have to restart my router from scratch just to get the internet to work.
the printer is automatically given it's own ip address (usually its been 192.168.1.3) My router ip is: 192.168.1.1 (dlink G604T) netmask: 255.255.255.0 gateway: 192.168.1.1
It is as though the printer is somehow 'interfering' with the router or internet connection.
Help!

The router is 192.168.1.1 the printer is .3 which suggests that one of your computers is .2. You have two PCs so has one of them been given a fixed IP of .3 which is conflicting with the printer?

Ok the printer should have 192.168.1.6 The computer will have 192.168.1.2 for LAN 192.168.1.3 for Wireless. The other computer 192.168.1.4 and 192.168.1.5.
But with windows running the show the addresses could be in any order depending which is switched on first and last.

Why should the printer have 192.1.68.1.6? The OP quite clearly states that it has 192.168.1.3.

G'day greysts.
Yes, why shouldn't the printer use 192.168.1.6 Yes the OP states 192.168.1.3 - then there are 2 devices trying to use the same address if 2 computers are switched on.

It was actually giving 192.168.1.4 for my printer, not 1.3 as i first thought. My PS2 was also assigned 1.4 but this was not on at the time.
Anyway, it turned out to be a dns fault that was happening each time i installed the printer. I followed instructions from https://www.opendns.com/start?device=windows-xp and everything is now fine.
Desktop works, Laptop works, printer works and most of all the internet works with the printer installed. Also, the PS2 has been assigned a new ip address.
I thought i would post the solution here in case anyone else has the same problem.

Never mine, mistakes do happen from time to time.

I was thinking about the DNS address but didn't want to go down that path to soon. Pleased to read you have solved your problem and all is working ok.
