DELL Symantec Recovery Disk Repair
      #377711 - Sat Dec 29 2007 10:43 PM

I am helping a friend with this and I only have a little time here and there to help, the problem is that Windows will rarely even work. I am writing this from my laptop, and I would love to reinstall xp, however, she got this computer from DELL that doesn't send discs for installation, it's just there. So now I'm killing myself to figure out how to go about this and making DELL help me fix this problem. If you have any tips on this or any other steps I might take, please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, that was last nite, and I've found the way to get the back up discs sent to me for free. However, while they are on their way, I was hoping to figure out how to repair the Symantic Recovery Disk for her as well, and possibly have her computer in working order before the discs come in, and who knows how long that will take.

I've found a few things hinting at the fact that it can be done manually, but again, I need a step by step guide in doing it. The good thing is that I have the computer right in front of me and can go back and forth to it and from it, etc.

I have a feeling that I can do this, again, I do not want to skip any steps, and want it to be done right. If anyone has any ideas or can walk me through this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank all of you for giving the rest of us hope and faith in our computers!!!

Have a blessed day........

Having read your HJT log and the background to this problem I would suggest you are wasting your time trying to use any sort of recovery programmes. Windows itself is now so severely corrupted that nothing short of a full Windows Restore will put this right. Wait for the Restore CD to arrive and use that to wipe the hard disk and start over.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
