G'day parrotlover.

Was the signal strength 95 - 100% from (FIONAO).
Well the simple answer could well be your nextdoor neighbour is using wireless and using the same (frequency) channel as yourself.
This will give simular problems to what you are experiencing. Blocking....

Hi sandhound.

Thank you for that info about the same (frequency) and channel as our selves.
dont know much about this wireless connections. In(sys)tray the signal strength never gets much above (54mbs).had the same problem this morning could not log on signal blocked.checked wifes laptop and found apart from our on connection it has (FIONAO)-(DOGGYVILLE)-(ASHLEIGH) and to others not showing at present, no signal strength shows.Switched wifes laptop off, my one came back on line.Would I encounter the same problems if I connect through ethernet cable.

G'day parrotlover.

Ok the wifes lap top reads as though it is in Ad-Hoc + Infrastructure mode that can block sometimes.
Ad-Hoc is used for computer to computer, so if she disables Ad-hoc and only uses Infrastructure your problem might be sorted.

No, nor can I. Let's try and make sense of this. The first thing I would suggest you do is recreate your wireless network by changing the SSID, using WPA/PSK for security and create a new more secure key. To do this properly you need to connect both the PCs direct to the router using ethernet cables. Make all the changes whilst still connected by wire and only when you've got both machines up and running, revert to wireless.

G'day parrotlover.

Ad-Hok is P2P channel 6. It's one of the setting for the wireless card sometimes enabled as standard.
Go to wireless card settings and uncheck.

Please explain more clearly what that is supposed to mean. How do you find these wireless card settings? What do you with them when you find them?

Happy New Year.
Sitting at wife’s computer to write this post, as my own one has been compromised by another user although they are on a lower channel setting than my one there signal strength is 92 dbn as opposed to my one at 39 dbn.
I do intend to connect my own one with Ethernet cable then hopefully you could talk me through the changeover.
Stan (parrotlover)

Many thanks from Vi

Ok you have found it - 11 is the channel no. The usuall default is 6.

In that window do you have buttons with Ad-Hok, Ad-Hok+Infastructure, Infastructure.

G'day parrotlover.

Ok with the other options.

(Mixed Mode Protection) that one should stop your wireless from being blocked by keeping the system syncronized, with yours and anybody nearby, depending the setting.
(Roaming Aggressiveness) Have you tried different settings with this one?.
(Transmit Power) Full
(Wireless Mode) b + g

BTW - have you tried connecting to the added SSIDs.

Well fun & games.

Have tried to access the other networks no joy, there are two unsecured but I wont touch them, I take it you meant the networks that keep popping up as (ssids).
Changed channel No 11 to 6 and from AD HOK to the others with different
Settings after more than two hours gave up
Mixed mode protection (roaming aggressiveness) (transmit power) full.
Regardless of what I try it keeps reverting back to (AD HOK) channel 11.
Rebooted laptop with each change where am I going wrong.
Fionao lives opposite our house top flat signal must be going straight over me.
Twice I had to shut down could not connect due to main router was offline rebooted
came back up still with the same guests will get a cable this week and sort laptop out later.

Can we rewind a bit?

When you say under, do you mean it's listed beneath yours in avaliable networks, or is FIONAO added to the name?

The Ad-hoc and channel numbers you're trying out here is all barking up the wrong tree.
