slow downloads

Hi,

I am running a 1Mb Virgin media BB on Windows vista and Firefox.

If i try to download using firefox it is very very slow, ca 10kb/s, If I download a torrent it is quite happy at upto 110kb/s but I cannot use it for eveything, a lot of things I do using firefox.

I have done several speed tests shown on these pages and everything seems fine download between speedtest.net had: 783kbs download

And sometimes My downloads will stop half way through and says they are 100% done.

Any help please.
