Cd/DVD not working

cannot play cds or dvds.keep getting an error message.

This file does not have a program associated with it for preforming this action.Create an association in the folder options in control panel.

Both these drives were okay yesterday.

Any help please.

Try a System Restore to yesterday or the nearest date to it.

EDIT* I notice you are currently involved in a HijackThis log. I wouldn't do anything till that particular issue is resolved. Maybe this problem is directly linked. Mention this in any future replies

Actually just noticed that it is auto run that will not run.If I open a program like WMP it will then run.

Please help.

Joe_London is helping with the HiJack issues.He doesent think that the dvd/cd problem is related.

Click on start > my computer > right click on your CD drive > properties > auto play tab. In the drop down box choose "music CD" . Now tick the box "select an action to perform" and then highlight ( left click on ) , "play audio CD using windows media player". Apply then OK.
To play DVD's , follow the above procedure choosing DVD from the drop down list , and , play DVD using windows media player.

I've tried that but, but when I reopen properties the drop down box as reverted back to music files, not music cd.
