Anyway to print on Epson when one cartridge empty?
      #377047 - Mon Dec 24 2007 09:48 AM

I have just inherited an Epson Stylus photo R200 printer from a relative. It has installed fine and the pc recognises it.

The problem I am having is this, the yellow cartridge is empty and I can't seem to find a way to get the Epson to print, as it just gives me the message that the yellow ink is out.

Brother in law has given me what cartridges he had, but there is no yellow. Apart from going to pc world or somewhere today and spending about £15 on a yellow cartridge just so that we can try the printer, is there any way I can get round this?

My last printer was an Epson C84 and this one had the same problem when one cartridge ran out.

Can anyone help please?

There is no way around this that I know of.
I have an R200 just for the CD/DVD printing facility and when one of the inks is empty, or rather when the printer tells you it's empty, you have to renew the one in question in order to carry on printing.
The idea around this is to allegedly prevent the nozzle(s) which are fed from the spent cartridge from drying up and clogging and potentially costing you a lot of money.
Some say that changing the settings in the preferences to print black only would work. Sadly it doesn't as that option isn't available in the Control Panel. Same with grey scale printing but grey needs the availability of other inks to 'make' grey.

I always have on hand a pack of reserve cartridges should this happen.

Thanks. On my C84 I always made sure I had a spare one to put in when one ran out. Of course this printer has just been given to me, as Brother in law has a new Vista pc and the printer won't work with Vista.

It was good of him to let me have the printer, so I'm not complaining lol!

My local stationers had got a Jettec one for £6.99, which I had no choice but to get, otherwise wait until after the new year to use my new printer!

I will order a full set of colours in the next few days, so I have some spare one (I have 3 black ones already).

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

. . . . don't tell the Brother-in-Law, but the R200 should be OK with Vista. The drivers are included with VIsta! They are called . . . >> In Box << . . .

Happy Christmas

** - NOTE! It is impossible to reset ink counters by software methods on this printer (R200).
Use "ink freezer" function to maintain current ink level and "hot swap" to use refilled old cartridges.

As the cartridge is already empty, you'd probably be 'freezing' the empty level which wouldn't help the issue. Buying a full cartridge and then 'freezing' may work but that defeats the object in this instance but could help in the future in a similar scenario.

Worth a try though.

thanks for that. May give it a go, although I might just make sure I always have cartridge to change with, so I don't get caught short.
