win media player wont burn discs
      #376706 - Thu Dec 20 2007 10:29 PM

Hi All. Got a virus recentely from msn, cleared this with Pancakes help. Tried to burn some songs onto cd using Windows Media Player, but it wont burn at all.(did not notice if this was happening before the virus ) It just keeps telling me to insert disc, it wont recognise that i have already done so. Tried different cds, that worked previousley. I have also uninstalled media player and then reinstalled it, still wont work for me. Any help or advice you could give me would be great. My daughter uses this all the time for playing and burning cds ,thanks

Have a look in My Computer > Right click your CD/DVD drive icon > Properties > Recording > Make sure 'Enable CD recording on this drive' is ticked.

Do you have any other CD burning software on board like Nero?

EDIT: Don't answer that. I've just looked at your HJT log and you seem to have at least three things running at startup that could be conflicting with Windows MP trying to burn a CD - Clone CD Tray, AnyDVD and Ulead. What are they all for?

Hi Greysts, clone cd and any dvd (slysoft, both came together) we use for copying dvd's sometimes, got this paid for version from a friend. Ulead i used for transfering camcorder footage, the old small tape kind onto the pc ,to edit and then put on dvd.these have been running for at least a year and a half, and did not have any problems before. should i stop them running at start up? if so how do i do that? Thanks to both of you for your advice so far.

You can used HJT to stop these things running at startup. Just run it again and put a mark against all the items that refer to CD or DVD copying.

Hi bikerbabe dont know if you solved your problem of burning discs but i had same thing.Tried all the usual things and no joy, even microsoft didnt want to know so i used winamp instead, although i wanted to use wmp. Then last week in the latest vista magazine the free disc included a codec pack that i installed and wmp works fine now its worth a go mate.Cannot understand why microsoft are so lazy when you need help its as if they want you to usesomething else.
