unusual problem, or is it just my big fingers?
      #376654 - Thu Dec 20 2007 03:55 PM

Ok i have a lynksis WAG54GS rireless residential gateway which has got a PC connected via a LAN cable and a laptop which connects wirelessly, these have been running quite happily together for a few years now wihout problems, until last thursday!!

my laptop (which i am currently using) connects without any difficulty and can access my pc via my home network.....no probs there, however my PC has now decided that it will no longer connect to the internet OR the gateway setup (192.168.1.1)it did download emails for a period of roughly 24hrs when it wasnt connecting to webpages but now all it does is sit there and laugh at my attempts to get online.

Ive repaired the lan connection (dns wouldnt flush initially) but got that sorted not sure where to go from here, the other things ive sussed out are that i CAN ping an internet address (ie: www.google.com) and can ping the gateway but cant access the gateway setup screen and cannot access the internet, internet explorer diagnoses that i need to redo my firewall to allow access BUT ive turned it OFF but it still wont connect, the gateway seems fine all settings are as they always have been, likewise my laptop and the PC seems ok too but i was away on thurs when it happened so somethings may have been changed without my knowledge but as far as I and my wife are concerned no-one has been tampering...... at my wits end someone PLEASE tell me how to fix it

G'day gazelle.

Download e-mails and connecting webpages, were you at the keyboard at the time of the events or was it an auto thing?.

Hi Sandhound

I am the only person that has touched it since it started to go funny, and everytime it is switched on i am there playing with.... err..... trying to fix it! also forgot to mention that ive also tried my speedtouch modem which is USB and even tried to gain connection by plugging in my mobile phone (which i use all the time for the laptop when im not at home)....all to no avail although the modems make the connection it just seems that the computer doesnt want to do anything online anymore other than ''ping'' things, oh almost forgot i noticed a DNS error message briefly at the bottom left of the internet explorer page earier, it came and went so fast i didnt notice exactly what it said and have not managed to reproduce the message again.

G'day gazelle.

It might be best at this stage to do a HJT log as your system is only pinging when connected and the DNS error message.

Please follow the instructions in TheFatControlleR's post click here and post your HJT log by starting a new thread, in the HijackThis forum only (not here).
