cannot open attachments

please help I am running windows vista and a hotmail account if I get an e mail with an attachment on it i cannot open it as when i try the screen flashes as if it wants to open but then goes back to previous scren with download box is it because majority of them are on excel spreadsheets and if so can i get round this ?

Do you have Excel?

If not, you need the Excel Viewer, here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en
