I hope you don’t mind me asking, its sort of a broadband help question
How come UK broadband upload speeds are average around 30-40kbps, but basic American broadband has upload speeds of around 150kbps+. Why does British broadband fall behind in this area of broadband? It’s come to a point where everyone is sharing movie files, songs, uploading pictures, movies & files on the web for storage & so forth that uploading is almost as important as downloading now. The uploading speeds are so poor, you could say were still in the stone age compared to other countries. I have a friend who is in Israel & his uploading cable broadband is close to 300kbps. How can a country deemed a 2nd world country have better performing broadband that a county like England?
Does anyone have any input on this as I would really like to see better uploading speeds without having to pay an arm & a leg to get it.

Welcome to the world of slow UK broadband. Unfortunately we are suffering from that well known syndrome of being first in something. Because the telecommunications infrastructure in the UK was laid down such a long time ago for simple voice communications it's not up to the job of high speed digital data flow. On top of that it is, to all intents and purposes, run by a monopoly called BT. For them to completely relay all the cables in the UK would cost several useful body parts. There are private companies now coming in but even they are only installing new equipment into local telephone exchanges. The bit from the exchange to your house still relies on good old fashioned copper wires (or in the worst case aluminium wires). When we get fibre optics to every residence we might finally see an improvement.
Incidentally, his ISP is this one.

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
