A bit harsh to blame Netgear.

You don't need to install any software to use a router.

Have a look at the guide that comes with it.

Connect it to the cable modem using the ethernet cable, and an ethernet cable to the PC from the router.

Turn everything off.

Turn on the modem and wait 2 minutes.

Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes.

Turn on your computer and open your browser.

Type 192.168.1.1 (may be slightly different.)

The username is admin, the password is password.

There will probably be a setup wizard which you can use, although they usually find the connection automatically with cable.

Look for wireless, then security and set a WPA password.

Disconnect the ethernat cable and look for available wireless networks. Click Conect to yours and enter the password when prompted.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

I've edited the title of your post(s), as it was more of an installation issue rather than a brand of router issue. Also the fact that you've took no advice from these pages and just gone and done your own thing, to be fair.

However I do understand that getting things off your chest is always adviseable, I just think you went about it, in the wrong manner.
