You're going to struggle to fix this without one. You need to copy that file to the directory from a CD, or do a repair install with a CD.

The only other option is to reinstall with a recovery CD, which means you lose your data.

He will loose only the data which is stored in system partition.

He will lose everything on the hard disk. Recovery CDs work by stripping out all the existing partitions, creating new ones and then copying the operating system in. That's a pretty terminal way to lose ALL your data.

G'day theneedtolearn.

Boot your computer using a DOS (win98se) floppy.

Navigate to C:\windows\System32\dllcache\ or C:\windows\Driver Cache\i386\ and copy ntoskrnl to system32 folder.

I assume you mean you reinstalled Windows? That wasn't really necessary, but now you've done that, your drivers probably aren't all installed. Your video driver will be one, that's why you can't change the resolution.

Go to Device Manager - Right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager.

What devices have a yellow question mark next to them?

Do you have onboard graphics?

All the drivers are here

Download and install all of the ones you need, following the prompts for installation.

Start with the Chipset driver.

Not sure what Verizon is, but you shouldn't need any software to connect to the 'net unless it's related to a USB modem?

Can't you download on the other computer and use a memory stick or CD to copy the files?
