Im trying to get back into my windows xp , after deciding to start a fresh (clean install) due to a problem with my pc turning itself off.I have a genuine copy of windows xp home edition that came with the computer, but when i start up i get the ntldr file is missing , it turns out that it is the windows root\system32\hal.dll file that is missing, i have tried various things that have been supply through various forums etc. As below
Bootcfg /Rebuild (didnt work) chkdsk /Rebuild (seemed to scan but didnt get any further forward) also tried to copy the i386\ntldr c:\ ,i386\ntdetect.com c:\(Nothing happened)
I just cant seem to get my PC to load up , even going into the options of installing a fresh copy it seems to go so far then shuts down, plus going through the R recovery option i sometimes have limited time to type things in before my pc turns itself off again.
Please help

You need to find out why it's turning off so quickly before getting your operating system sorted.
Have yoiu checked the temperature? Is the fan and heatsink clean?
Go into the BIOS settings and you should find a temperature monitor somewhere. Your CPU temp should be no more than 60c when it's idling.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

ok so if the temp is to high how would i lower the temp and what would i lower it to, have you any other ideas to what could be turning it off , could it be a hardware issue like a loose connection inside, if so how can i correct without being able to get into the windows xp desktop itself?

The heatsink and fan keep the CPU cool. Check it's seated properly and there's not loads of gunk between the fan and heatsink.
If it's a hardware problem it will keep happening even if you manage to install Windows. You need to find out what it is first.
