Did you check that you've got the right type of memory for this PC, number of pins, speed etc.?

Why don't you just go to the Crucial site here and get it to tell you what you need.

hi, ive done the check and the chip ive tried to install is the correct type, a new kingstone which works in my ibm t23,according to dell i should be able to just add memory to upgrade. when i try to install chip it says .. system 32 error ,please insert resorce disk to correct problem, when i do this nothing happens, take the chip out and all is well again, strange eh. it allso says something about resetting bios, then pc shuts down.

G'day davedarkstar.

Quote:

Max RAM is 2X 256M, PC100 or PC133

So a 512 chip will not work.
You need 2 x 256mB chips.
Also what type buffered/unbuffered etc.

Then on the face of it the chip is either damaged or it's the wrong type. If it works in one PC and not the other it clearly isn't damaged. That only leaves one conclusion as far as I can see. Did you follow the Crucial guidelines and get your chip from them?
