The computer shop man tried to persude me to go wireless. But I tried once and it was fraught with problems. Ip configurations, poking around inside the PC, sorting out the right adapter, the right cables etc etc.
Why is everything about wireless these days? Surely nothing could be simpler then cable to cable connection to transfer data?
Or am I out of date now?

Poking around inside the PC is unnecessary if you use a wireless USB adapter.
If set up correctly, wireless is very reliable. I've been using my home wireless network for almost 3 years with only the occasional reboot of the router. Even then it's probably more down to the Virgin modem than the router.
The advantage of wireless is obvious. No need for running cables around your house.
If that's not an issue, then using cables is the way to go. It's almost 100% reliable and easier to set up, and will be faster than sometimes ridiculously claimed speeds of wireless. If you've got a network card on your PC, you just plug it in and it should work.
Routers, switches etc that use wired netwroking are also cheaper than their wireless equivalents.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

I agree with Richie, if running wires isn't an issue then wired every time. It's more reliable, faster and totally secure.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
