Hi,
My graphics card is getting a bit old for new games so I have to run on lower settings.
I am currently playing Call of Duty 4 and my pc can handle it just on lower settings. I was wondering if upgrading only the graphics card(currently ati radeon x300) to something much better (ati radeon x1800 or something) would affect the pc's performance.
Thanks
My PC Runs windows XP, AMD Athlon64 (2.0GHz-i think), 1024Mb Ram.
All of theses specs fit the requirements for the game but would upgrading the graphics card take up more ram, slow the PC down etc.....

Upgrading your Graphics card is obvious, but I would also consider an extra gig of RAM.
This is supposedly a loud card, so be pre warned, The X1800 XT comes in both 256MB and 512MB configurations. Which is the GPU's own memory. The card is big with dual DVI and will need you to remove two plates from the tower rather than one, unless you get the X1800 XL which still has twin DVI, but only comes in a 256MB config.
Once you're happy with that and have the money, I'd consider then upgrading your CPU and PSU.
All provding your MOBO can support it.

I may not go for that one...I just need something that is better than the X300. I have 1024 mb or Ram. I would have thought that would be enough. I was woondering also about the power consumption. I have heard that newer card use more power. I think my comp runs on 300watts. Will that be enough if I upgrade.
Thanks

In your original post you said that you were considering that card?
A gig of ram is enough, but if you're serious about PC gaming 2gb would be better, and yes you're correct you would need a PSU upgrade. Your current one wouldn't support that card.
