Hi I have had this old p2 dell laptop running win 2000 on sky for a while but last week I re-installed win 2000 as it was running very slow.
I can get signal from sky and packets are going out but none coming in so I can't get a web page it shows dns error.
any idea's? I have been on my other pc and gone onto the settings of the sky box via the 192. page and double checked the wep key info so I thnk its a setting I am missing?? as this is an old dell latitude it doesn't have a network port so wireless is the only way until I can buy a new laptop.
any idea's would be great
Cheers

Try the ipconfig /all command. Start > Run, type cmd and press Enter, now type ipconfig /all and press Enter. If you get 169.254.n.n returned, try typing the WEP key in hexadecimal rather than as characters.
Another long shot is to change the channel number.

1. Go to Wireless Zero Configuration in Administration Tools > Services then if Stop is there, click it and then change Startup to Disabled.
2. Type the hexadecimal WEP code in the Win2000 computer not in the router set up page.

HI, Still no luck, its driving me nuts. I have even completly re-installed win 2000 with no luck. Also it won't let me release and renew as Sky wireless is dhcp? I have changed the wep key on the router and then added that to the laptop and still the same packets going out but nothing going in?? I also had a good look in control panel then admin tools, nothing seemed out of place there?

Being an old machine, could it be that it will only accept 64bit WEP Key encryption and you're using 128bit?

G'day Shrek.
You need the local area SKY dns server address(s).
