...but I've found that recently (say over the last 6 months) I'm having far more problems with the things I'm buying on eBay - despatch times slow, items not as they should be and a general poor buying experience. In the past month, I've had to raise 3 disputes with PayPal - something I've never had to do before. So is it just a bad run or are others finding the same thing? I'd be interested to hear what you think. I've been an eBay member since 2002 but I'm considering quitting.

Often it can just be finding all the duff sellers in a row or it can just other things causing problems. Not blowing our trumpet, but if someone buys something tonight (and pays) it will be packed and sent tommorow.
We therefore get the sort of feedback you want 'Fast delivery' etc etc.
BUT tonight we have dealt with a Glasgow lady. Bought and paid at 5 to midnight on 7th Nov. Sent First Class Recorded next day and...........well, nothing. Not even Track and Trace can locate it and Royal Mail's site and phone service still talk of 'clearing the backlog'. But we are communicating - we have told her we will refund IF it doesn't show up after 15 working days (Royal Mail's standard for 'lost' items) - and she is going to check the local Sorting Office (99 times out of 100 it's usually there).
Want a scare on how bad the post strike was:

On issues where items are Not As Described you should always go back to the listing and study it carefully - friend of mine recently had a buyer dispute about an item that was listed as 'unsealed' which they had read as 'sealed'. Sometimes condition is actually described, but we tend to miss it in the eagerness to buy.
Where you find that it really is Not As Described then, yes, open disputes. We don't hesitate to put late payers on warning, and would expect to be taken to task if we sold shoddy stuff. But always email the seller first with your concerns - tell them why you feel it is not right and ask what they will do. Check if they are business sellers as they HAVE to accept returns and pay return postage and postage already paid by law in the UK. (Members are listed as Personal or Business next to the time they have been on eBay in listings).
But, yep, you might just have had a bad run. It happens when you go out shopping in the high street and the trainers you bought fall apart, and the top you paid a lot for frays at the collar.
We sell and buy on eBay and often it is a case of finding the odd things that you cannot get anywhere else - best buy this year? An apple peeler and corer. We have an apple tree that goes mad in Autumm and we were fed up with hand peeling the things. What a gem!
The trick with eBay is to look into a seller first. Check as much feedback as you can - sometimes people leave criticism in Positives, so worth checking.
Don't give up just yet. A good run may just be round the corner with a few bargains!

The Seller's Side
Just wanted to add a bit more following a recent experience this week. First off, my Glasgow lady GOT her items - posted First Class Recorded on 8th. Received 16th............Postman told her, he could not find her address.
Also this week I was browsing at the competition in a category where we sell a certain item. Suffice to say that the last few weeks have been annoying as some Hong Kong Seller is under cutting us deliberately, but we hit back by amending our listings to remind buyers of the import duty they would get hit with buying off him - we have already paid it on our stock.
Then I notice a familiar photo of an item. And another. Blow me, two sellers using MY photos to sell their stock!!! One was in Israel and he responded to an email with a 'Sorry, I'll remove it'. The listing only had a few hours and when it finished, yes, he relisted with the same picture. He has now taken his listing down.
The other was a UK seller, using two of my photos, although they had tried to crop the watermarks out. They ignored our emails politely pointing out the breach of copyright and eBay rules. EBay have today kicked the listing off - good oh!
SO you had a bad buying run, we've had a bad selling run. But all things have come good at the end. Now if I could just get my credit card company to give me back the £80 I lost buying stock off another company that have gone up the river it would finish the week!

Thanks for the replies, maybe I've just gone on a bad run as you say - I'd be a lot more upset if someone was using my pictures as they did yours!

Linking in with the post on using Photobucket, I would add that the free download of Paint.net is worth the time. Put an image in that, add Text on the picture (we now put our eBay shop name but you can put your eBay ID) and it stops the photo being nicked. Bit late for the two we had, but it means no one else can do it.
Upset does not describe the way I felt but suffice to say eBay sorted it - pays to keep an eye on similar listings.

I joined in 02 also, i have made about 250 purchases in that time - when i first started, even new members would give regualr communications, dispatch items quickly and give friendly feedback.... recently more and more people are argumentative, unfriendly and slow.

I agree with what has been said previous. eBay are trying to combat this with like their 5 star system when on feedback...in my experience I've come across sellers who are sooo unfriendly!! I thought it was just me thinking this. It's a shame really because eBay can be such a useful tool
