      #372219 - Thu Nov 15 2007 05:36 PM

Hi There! Anybody still having problems with Active Desktop Recovery? I,ve been getting it for about 3 weeks now, it truly is a pain.Anybody know where I can find the registry hack for dealing with it.I read about someone who found a site where he fixed it, all help appreciated, God Bless, Tomppa.

Don't know about a registry hack but try this simple solution. When the active desktop screen appears do a right click with your mouse. Choose properties then desktop and change the background. This should get you back to your desktop . You can now , if you choose , change your background back again to what it was before the problem started.
Now it's a matter of waiting to see if it happens again.

Thanks for the tip.Unfortunately the Laptop was having none of it.It only happens from a cold start so I reckon i,ll just have to hibernate and wait until MS comes up with something, thanks anyway,God Bless,Tomppa.

Tomppa , this will be the registry hack you mentioned ,

Change in registry following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\SafeMode\Components
Change the value of DeskHtmlVersion to zero instead of decimal 272.

A word of warning : i personally have not used this fix. Any mistakes made whilst editing the registry could render your pc unusable. If you choose to use this fix ,you do so at your own risk. .

I tried that fix,to my dismay the Laptop was even harder to start up, it was having none of that.I finally got back into the registry and changed it back. Strange, because my mate said it was the fix he used and it worked. So now I,m hibernating again, its strange MS does,nt have anything,(maybe they have but are not letting on)anyway I,ll keep at it, God Bless, Tomppa.
