I get the message, telling me its just recovered from a series error!! this does'nt appear every time, has anyone any ideas to this annoying switch off, the pc is 5, and its a window's XP. Here is the error report from today's switch off, unfortunatly I have'nt a clue as to what this mean's!!, anyone's help is much appreciated thankyou.

Try to get it to show a stop code, rather than restarting:
Right-click My Computer > Properties.
Click the Advanced tab, then the Settings button, under startup and recovery.
Remove the tick next to Automatically restart under system failure.
OK back out and see if you get a blue screen.
Make a note of the stop code, usually smething like 0x000008E.

Hiya RichieP!! firstly thankyou for the help, its much appreciated, I have done as you mentioned, but it refused to do anything, no blue screen or anything??, I did a full system scan yesterday, using AVG, and it found a trojen!!, I have dealt with that.... at first, I thought that may be the culprit but I was wrong, it did its thing again, followed by the microsoft error!! have you anymore further ideas as to what this fault could be??, again thankyou.

G'day minniemouse.
After following RichieP instructions, you did click on OK to both screens?.

Sometimes, if you click to send the error report, then view details, it will load a page in your browser that may give some idea what is happening.
Have a look in Event Viewer to see if there are any erros at the time of crashes:
Right-click My Computer > Manage.
Click the + to the left of Event Viewer, then Click System. Look for any errors. Double-click on each one, then click the hyperlink to see if it helps you.
If still no clues, your RAM would be next thing to check. If you have more than 1, take 1 out and run the computer again. If it still crashes, swap them over and try again.

Ok!! I have done as you suggested, there are in total 65 error's since October 28th, all of them say service control manager, apart from 2, what does this mean?? have you any ideas?? does it mean there is a problem with a driver?, or could it mean there's something more sinister, again thankyou Richie for your help its much appreciated.

Double-click on each one, then click the hyperlink to see if it helps you.
There is usually a blue link to take you to the MS Support pages. These somethimes help.

The errors you're getting are related to services not loading. They're probably more likely to be as a result of your problems, not the cause.
I'd be inclined to start looking at hardware for the cause.
Test the RAM with Memtest if you only have one stick, otherwise, take one out. If testing with Memtest, run it for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.
If that returns OK, try testing your hard drive with a utility from the manufacturer's website. You need to see who makes the drive. Can you see if you take the side off?
