vista, talk talk and the story of the missing email
      #371426 - Fri Nov 09 2007 06:46 PM

okay I need some help with my laptop. I recently purchased a Dell with Vista and a netgear wireless router to go with it. I have managed to set the wireless network up and can access the internet with no problems. However when it comes to emails I cannot send or receive anything. I am using microsoft outlook (not express)and have an account set up with talktalk which, up to present, has been no problem at all.

I have copied all info over from the old account and even contacted talktalk but all to no avail. even talk talk cannot verify the solution and i felt really important when i was given the second level telephone number to call.

i know my account is working because i still have access to my old xp laptop so i can pick up email from there but i wont have it for much longer

help

please help

thanks

When you create a new email account in Outlook there is a button available that allows you to test the setup. What does that tell you?

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

thanks for this

It says 'error' log onto incoming mail server (POP3)The specified server was not found but there was no response from the server. please verify that the port and the SSL information is correct.

It also atates that the server may not support SSL (whatever that is) and that I should verify it under the advanced tab.

hope that helps.

thanks

Have you followed this tutorial exactly and made absolutely sure that you have the correct email address and password? Also make sure you have the correct information for the POP and SMTP servers.
