Good afternoon, can I please come back and ask yet another question.
Just back home clutching my new shiney toy, an external LG GSA-E4ON dvd-rewriter and have been reading the system requirements as printed on the box. (I know, I should do these things in the shop............maybe that gives a clue as to the origins of my user name )
Anyway, all seems ok and the thing is chugging away on the other PC and writing dvds like a goodun but one thing about the requirements does confuse me. It states that the writer requires 20GB or more free space on the HDD.
Can someone advise why it needs all that space, does it only require it when it is actually writing and what happens when my hdd fills up and has less than that amount of space free ( a situation which is not too far distant), does it cease to function or does it simply slow down to a grind.
Thank you in advance for any advice.

A considerable amount of temporary disk space is required but 20GB seems excessive to me.
It's not Blu-Ray, so I would have thought the largest temporary space needed is to write a dual-layer DVD (9GB ish), plus a bit for the LightScribe feature.

Thank you for the consideration of your reply, BW, and my apologies for the delay in responding.
Obviously, LG are prositing the worse case scenario, but as you say, it does seem an awful lot.
Still, not to worry, it works and that is all I can ask.

Have you checked to see if it is actually using 20gb of HDD? As it could be a print error on the packaging.

Hullo Mouse. No have not made that check yet, but will have a snoop next time I have a lot to burn, may not get much of an idea simply testing with a few odds and ends. Will post back with some results.
Thank you for your interest.

G'day bungler.
The 20Gb space required is used when Video burning to DVD.

Thank you, sandhound, that would explain it.
I don't do anything with video, it's really just my doc and images backups, so there should be no probs.

G'day bungler.
Yep Ok..
BTW, DVD copy takes quite a bit of HDD space so if you are low on space use the burn to image setting then image to DVD.
