Hi guys,
I know little about broadband and I need to know what my options are. Basically, I have just moved into a flat and my flatmate already has BT broadband. For some reason he is not wanting to share (ie via router) and I was wondering if it is possible to get my own broadband? (I seem to remember something about only being able to have one broadband account per household?).
Also, would I have to get BT or could I get Virgin (I have always been with Virgin).
Any advice appreciated!
Thanks

There are several options available - satellite, mobile phone, normal t/p line, cable, wi-fi etc. but the two main ones are t/p line or cable. You can only have one BB connection on one telephone line so if you want to go down that road you will need a new t/p line installed by BT. If you have VirginMedia cable available then just phone them to get it installed.
Why is your mate against a router? I would have thought that you offering to go halves on the cost would be quite a good deal for him.

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Thanks for the advice! I was getting worried that I wouldn't be able to get Broadband!
He does a lot of gaming and thinks when we are both on that it will slow down his connection (I don't know whether this is the case but suspect he is right (i do some gaming too)).

Just ask that the other does not do any "bandwidth heavy" things while one is playing a game. Light Internet browsing and the odd game of CS:S can live in harmony but expect to hear him shouting if you're downloading a big file while he plays.
Oh, and its perfectly OK for both of you to play a game at the same time. There is hardly a difference made there
Have fun!
