Hiya all! First time posting so bear with me.
Have Virginmedia broadband connected to PC by cable modem. Have bought MSI wireless router and have set it up throught PC (using XP).
Have Acer Aspire 5630 with wireless capabilities. This laptop can see the router but cannot connect to the Internet.
Please help! Am losing my mind.

You say you've setup the router via the PC. Did that include setting up the required security (WPA/PSK) and changing the SSID? If so have you setup the wireless security on the laptop? Do you have a firewall on the laptop and have you allowed access through it for the router?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

I haven't changed the SSID - it says RG60SE (the make of the router). I haven't got a clue I haven't done anything to the laptop apart from restore factory settings and give up.
How do I allow the router access through the firewall?
Thank you for your help!

apart from restore factory settings
Why did you do that? Which firewall are you using on the laptop?

Acer Technical Support recommended I restore factory settings to elimate software issues.
I have disabled the Windows firewall in favour of Norton Internet Security firewall. Next? (Thank you for all your help.)

Having restored it did you then download ALL the Microsoft updates? Have you setup the Norton firewall to allow access in both directions to the router?

Yes, I have allowed access to the router through Norton Internet Security Firewall.
The Vista Diagnostic on the laptop is throwing up the error message: "There may be a problem with your DNS." Something about pinging, but not getting a reply. Any ideas? Have tried entering primary and secondary addresses manually, but nothing.
