unmountable_boot_volume- blue screen of death
      #370417 - Thu Nov 01 2007 12:21 PM

ive got a problem with the blue screen of death- its coming up with the unmountable_boot_volume.
now ive searched the net and found a supposed solution on the microsoft website which involves using the recovery console on a windows xp disc.
im in the middle of running the recovery console at the moment and its 59% done.
is there anything else i should look out for whilst doing this?

One doesn't 'run' the recovery console! It is accessed to run certain programs.

I suspect that you must be repairing Windows, which will require that all previous Microsoft service packs and updates have to be re-applied. Your personal data and non-Windows programs (with a few exceptions) will not be affected.

I can't quite follow what you're doing, i.e. progress percentages, percentages dropping back?

Did you type a command, like CHKDSK (capitals for clarity only)?

Fingers crossed but that error means the hard drive is failing.

You haven't actually repaied it, Windows moves certain files to good parts of the hard drive and writes off the bad parts as unusable.

It needs replacing asap as it will fail completely any time soon and all data could be lost.
