Hi everyone,
I've got a 1GB USB Flash Drive which in the past has worked perfectly on my Windows XP PC. Now when I plug it into any of the USB sockets it doesn't load onto system - the egg-timer just keeps flashing. In My Computer there is an icon for a Removable Disk F: but when I click on it an 'Insert Disk' dialog box appears asking 'Please insert a disk into drive F:' with a cancel button. When I click the cancel button the egg-timer keeps flashing. I then have to click the 'Safely Remove Hardware' button to remove the drive.
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it's showing up in Computer Management under 'Removable Storage/Media' as 2 entries, 1 is the drive itself and the other is the U3 System (ROM) on the drive.
Both entries are showing as idle.
Hope this helps.

do you have the same trouble if you insert the drive before you start up the computer? you could try uninstalling then reinstalling the usb flash drivers some updated drivers can be had from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...;displaylang=en here http://www.usbflashdrivers.com/ here http://www.usbgear.net/downloads.html and for a format tool as well,no use in Vista sorry.

Hi Uesquebeathus,
Thanks for reply.
I tried inserting the USB drive before starting the PC and this time the drive was detected and loaded up as normal.
I think there was a piece of software on the drive itself which needed re-installing to enable the drive to autoplay.
I removed it and then re-inserted it and it loads up.
Many thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
