I have a Canon Pixma iP500 printer which is 3 years old. It has worked very well until recently when, progressively, it gives streaky, lined prints. I fix this problem by deep cleaning the print heads (it sometimes requires 6 to 10 cleans) and also I print a few "test" pages, before acceptable results are obtained. I also have changed cartidges to no effect.
My question is: do the print heads become unusable after some time? Should I buy a new printer? Any other comments and help would be appreciated.

Sounds like ip500 is going the same way mine did after about 3 years. Yes, I believe print heads do deteriorate over time but when you look at the price of replacements a new printer seems a better option. Added to that of course is the huge expense of the ink involved in deep cleaning 10 times. I gave in and bought an ip4200 which not only does duplex printing (back and front) but also has an adaptor to print on the face of CDs.

G'day.
I have a canon i560 that has the blue stripe problem, sometimes it's there sometimes it's not.
