Hi everbody!
I hate my routers so much! The reason is that drop my internet all the time! When the Internet is dropped, the setup page says its still connected. my router is a Netgear DG384GT from Sky broadband. I got a replacement, but both fail with the internet and drop wireless at the same time. Can Anyone help me, please? Would be of great help!!!

Well now I think I fixed it. I had to Assign an private IP for my laptop in the router, since it doesn't know what IP my laptop has...

I'd guess its your Router firewall is the root you did not say if you were connecting up by Cable or wireless card
If you can get a good signal via the cable (100mbs) and less than 54MBS wireless then its a reception fault on the Network card Perhaps altering to a different channel (choice of 13) may help matters? plus a reset and New password on the Router ...Copy the Details carefully to paper ,especially the Long 24 digit number and copy that to your wireless card setup if that is possible Router Reset hole os located to the left of the power lead socket an the left cable socket Never done this so I don't know what happens next OK?

Cheers for reply and congrats on your router success,
Yes, Its is my root firewall.
Once again my router doesn't respond. My laptop connects via wireless (11mbs) and only via Ethernet (100mbs) when I need to fix it.
Resetting the router doesn't do anything. My router is on channel 9 (works fine).
I can do things like changing the WPA key, but because it's supplied by Sky and they lock there routers, its very limited and it just crashes and I have to restore it again!
I did get an idea and I will try disabling the "act as DHCP server" setting and update to tell you what happens!

No it didn't work, In fact it went even worse than I expected. Nothing worked, I had to unplug everything exept the power and my ethernet. I had to reboot the router 2 and unplug it 3 times to restart it to get it working again!

I'm womdering if you have the windows Firewall on Plus your firewall software? Try turning off the Windows fire wall and leave the other firewall alon do a reset then see ip the MBPS rate has risen? other thing it may be is your software firewall is set at a High security level Reduce it to Standard or whatever it says
As for Sky and their Lock policy Thats stupid
Last thing you can try. But you'll need an experienced person to read the result,is to Visit the Shields Up! site and run the scans (there are 4 ) It might Pinpoint what is causing the Blockage? It is 100% Secure https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 or www.grc.com and scroll down the Page to the Shields Up! section

I don't have any software firewalls because they have been causing problems in the past. I am using my laptop at the moment and the router is working fine. Its wierd, it randomly drops connections and my ip for no reason.
Well, actuly I am one of the most experienced persons with comuters in my family and I will try to see what the blockage is.
Update later, Flamingfox

Nothing, Its all fine, all the ports are stealthed. Like I said before, its something with the router assigning the IP addresses. I don't know anything about my adapter and I don't know why its at 11mbps...

G'day flamingfox.
My adapters are only 11mbps with good signal dropping to 2mbps with a weak sig. Unstealth your ports, untill connection is made then bring the protection back on again. If your router will not connect set the IP to manual configure. You will find you need DHCP enabled and the Bridge.

Hi Sandhound, thanks on reply.
I don't know why, but when I assign the ip manualy, it stops the internet completly. DHCP is still enabled and the Bridge???

The internet will drop as soon as the wireless does as the internet working on your laptop depends on the network.
You need to leave DHCP enabled on the router and the settings on the laptop to obtain an ip address automatically. These routers generally work quite well so I'm surprised if it's a problem with the router itself.
Do you any software managing the wireless connection on your laptop, eg Belkin, D-Link etc?

G'day flamingfox.
Just a quick one. Have you, using IE entered 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 to gain access to the router?

Hi all,
1. No, I don't have any software to manage my wireless connection exept windows.
2. Yes, I have gained access to the router using IE to 192.168.0.1 .
And RichieP, I had to replace my router, so this one is my second one.

G'day flamingfox.
Ok on accessing router. It might be wise to visit your wireless card website and download the software for it and install and stop windows making the connection. You may also need to enter your WiCard MAC number into the router. I read you are using stealth mode in earlier postings, no need to as the router has it's own firewall.

Hi Sandhound,
I don't know what my wireless card is, so I can't really. Is there any way to find out which one it is? But the thing is, I did serch up my pc on google and the hp site popped up. I went on it and found some drivers... I'll check if they work. The mac address and IP is in my router already.

G'day flamingfox.
Start/Settings/Control panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Network Adapters

If you have the correct ones' and your not running in stealth mode then all should work.
Take a look here all the spec is listed.

I assume you're not in the UK? SKY buy thier wireless routers from Netgear and use their own firmware to lock the routers with their own configuration. You can't buy any old router and use them with SKY because they refuse to give you the settings and you can't get them from the Netgear router.
I think the problem lies with the computer not the router, seeing as it's the 2nd router he's tried.

Hi whizzer and everyone else!
I only have one micro-filter downstrairs in the main BT socket. It's wierd because that anything that connects via wireless doesn't work all the time, as for Ethernet, its fine!

Where is the router situated? Is it near any fishtanks, radiators (yes, really) or cordless phone stations?
