Hey guys (and gals), I have Autocad 2008 but I use 3 different computers - one of which is a laptop with a very small hard drive. I also have a 4Gb USB stick. I've been trying to install Autocad onto the stick so I can use it on any of the comps but it won't let me! I can install to C:\ or E:\ (data drive on the comp I'm installing it from) but it doesn't recognise D:\ (or even show it in the possible destination box). If I type D:\ in the path it says it's invalid. Anyone know why?

From what I remember about AutoCad, it is extremely expensive and the owners are adamant that they will not allow it to be installed on more than one PC. I would also guess that they've built as a default into the programme the fact that they expect the D: drive to be a CD drive rather than partition on the hard disk.

Thanks Greysts. My system is Vista Home Premium and in File Manager it shows the drives as - C:\ Vista E:\ Data F:\ DVD If I add the 4gb stick it inserts - D:\ Removable Disk If I plug in my other USB stick it adds (only 250mb) - G:\ USBdiskpro The drive letters never change no matter which order I plug them in. Can I change the drive letter for my 4gb stick? Unfortunately Vista doesn't support any Autocad versions except the latest one (so my 2005 version is now useless!) - and you're right - it costs a fortune! I'm finding so many programmes that don't work that I want to make the laptop dual boot (with XP Pro) is it possible?

With the stick inserted go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management. Highlight the stick then click on Action, All Tasks, Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Yes you can dual boot but it's a whole lot easier if you have XP loaded first. You will need the full install CDs for both XP and Vista.
