I've Got Sky Broadband with the Netgear router and my laptop works with it! I haven't had any problems with it (Apart from the router droping the internet, but that was the phone socket!).
Any way, Your card might not be compatable with the router as I should think.

You don't need the Sky software. Uninstall it.
From what you say I assume you are connected to the router?
If so, open Internet Explorer and click Tools > Internet Options.
Click the Connections tab, then the setup button.
Follow the prompts to set up an account manually and to a connection that is always on.
That's all you should need to do.
If it still doesn't work, right-click your wireless icon and select Status.
click the Support tab and tell me what it says is your default gateway and ip address.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Where exactly in Richie's post does it suggest that the OP removes McAfee?
