setting up outlook express
      #369266 - Mon Oct 22 2007 07:30 AM

Hi, my daughter has never set up her outlook express on her laptop and asked me to help set it up. She is with Orange broadband. She dug out her old username and password for freeserve as that was what her server was when she first registered. Try as I might I just cant get it set up although everything looks correct, a small "enter your password" box plagues us by coming up all the time and stopping things. Posts seem to send but arent received for days. Hoping you can help....thanks....Heather

Hello Heather

Have a look at this web page which tells you how to set up an outlook express account from scratch. Just follow the instuctions and you should be ok. I had that annoying "enter password" box a few years ago and the problem was that I had the @ sign in the incoming mail server account name. It's just something as simple as that.
You can have a look here to check your settings. It displays screen shots to make it easy to follow. Follow the links at the bottom of each page to take you through the set up.

Have fun.

Hi TCN,
thanks for your help and reply. Been trying all night to correct this with your help but havent succeeded. I`m beginning to wonder if the password is corrupted as have followed the instructions to a letter. I noticed on a helpline there are lots of others with the same error Ox800CCC92 and are in the same position stuck and have to phone Orange, think its a con to get more money out of us but looks like the only solution. Some have said even phoning hasnt cured it. Thanks again for replying...........Heather

If her Freeserve account hasn't been used for some time it is likely that it has been cancelled by Orange. I would give up trying to resurrect an old account and start over with a new one.

Hi, I worked on it for an hour this morning configuring a googlemail account through her outlook express had to do the configuring with outlook offline because of that error box then I used the Gmail POP troubleshooter tool to check I had got it right and suddenly post came into her account backdated from March!!! Her wanadoo email account for Orange that she has had but never used in Outlook was the first one I was trying to configure last night with no success but I had left it there and I made the googlemail one the default this morning. Her password wasnt corrupted thankfully. Hope this explanation will help someone else who has the same problem as noticed many have it on the Orange forum pages......Heather

Thanks for the update Heather. I'm pleased that you've at least managed to get your friend back online with her e:mails through googlmail. All I can think of, is that there is a piece of duff info in the setup procedure for the wanadoo account in OE.
The thing about this sort of thing is that you end up learning all sorts yourself.
