      #369087 - Fri Oct 19 2007 11:33 PM

hey guys, new to this forum so sorry if i am asking dumb questions to you technically gifted people.

i have a dell inspiron 1501 with single core amd 1.7ghz processor. have priced up 2gb memory upgrade for 40 odd pounds, just wondered if can swap the processor without too much hassle?

also asked in networking forum i currently run netgear dg834gt 108mpbs router. would i benefit from buying next gen dg834n router?

thanks

The answer to your question is this, is your current Processor the Fastest for the design of Motherboard? If so then its very costly(better off buying a new computer)
But Download run the Program from here www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Run it (doesn't install) Then post the Motherboard Name and model number and The Socket number one of the gang can find you the price of a Dual-Core processor to suit, or a Faster single core
The performance difference is minor I have a new AMD and I have chosen a new Fast 1 core chip for half the price of the Duo core ,and got it OEM ..Plain box No fan Heatsink (price to get these a Tenner )
A Good friend of mine found that the Duo core chips Do stutter under load and has gone back to a single core

PS if its the AMD Sempron chip fitted there is a chance there is a Processor Upgrade...Unsure about the Turion chip though

There are 2 dual core processes listed Turion 64 X2 TL-64 and Turion 64 X2 TL-66 but they are the same performance @2000MHZ or 2200MHZ which is no difference
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Turion_microprocessors
Do a search for anything this fits an "Socket S1" motherboard higher than 2000MHZ but it may need the BIOS updating to cope with it? (Dealer or computer Buff job)
