Using Incredimail with a hotmail account.
      #368484 - Mon Oct 15 2007 11:13 AM

Windows XP

Receiving loads of junk email - over 50 aday. So I thought I would create a new email account to solve the issue.
Unfortunately I can't get my new hotmail account to work with Incredimail. Not sure if the problem is the smtp details I am entering- tried all sorts of combinations. Any ideas?
Alternatively how can I stop the junk emails- keep bouncing them back to sender but think it is a chain mail type thing
Andy

Hi there and welcome to the forum. I can remember reading something about this ages ago. It appears you cannot download Hotmail to Incredimail,OE, Thunderbird or whatever email program you use without using a Hotmail paid for account.

After a quick google search found this.....

Q: How do I configure my Hotmail or MSN email account to work with IncrediMail?

A: On October 1st 2004, Microsoft blocked access to Hotmail and MSN email accounts used in email clients such as Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Eudora or IncrediMail. Anyone who wishes to use a Hotmail or MSN account in any email client is required to pay Microsoft for this service.

If you would like to continue using your Hotmail or MSN email account in IncrediMail, you will have to pay Microsoft for their new service. On the other hand, if you would like to continue using an email account free of charge in IncrediMail, you can open a free POP3 email account with HotPOP, or any other POP3 email account provider you wish to use.

If you have a Hotmail or MSN email account and have purchased Microsoft's new service, follow these simple steps to configure your email account with IncrediMail:

Hope that helps.

Thanks, probably explains whyI was having problems- I do like Incredimail but will need to find another way of blocking so much junk email. It may mean having to pay!
Thanks again
Andy

You're welcome.

I used Incredimail some years ago and like it at first and it was quite a novelty and I paid for the premium version. Used it for about 3 years or so, the junk filter was good, but then Incredimail removed the junk filter and decided to charge people extra for it, which is when I dumped it.

I use Thunderbird now and it catches most of the junk.

Perhaps a 3rd party spam filter would be a good idea for you. Perhaps someone on here can recommend a good one.
