When I click on internet links it opens a window but doesn't go any further .There is no content . Also if I press "shift" and click the link to open in another window the same thing happens - a blank window which freezes .It has happened in the last two weeks .Any ideas ? Running Win98SE IE6.

Go to Start > Run and type ‘regsvr32 urlmon.dll’ (not the quotes but the space). A box will come up saying it has been successful, click OK to close the box. It should now be alright.
If this doesn’t resolve the problem, repeat the above by replacing Urlmon.dll with each of the following: Shdocvw.dll, Msjava.dll, Actxprxy.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Mshtml.dll, Browseui.dll, Shell32.dll, then restart the PC.

Thanks. Tried the first one , no different. Tried the others all came up ok apart from the last one "Shell32.dll" where a box came up saying "Shell32.dll was loaded but the Dll server registery point was not found. Dll Register server may not be exported or a corrupt version of Shell32.dll may be in memory.Consider uisng P view to detect and remove it"
Any ideas ?

I've put my brain into gear for Win98, Shell32.dll is WinXP.
Try this one, go to Start > Run and type ‘regsvr32 shdoc401.dll' and press Enter.

I can't be exactly sure of the locations of Win98 commands but there is a repair IE feature.
I think this is right, go to Add/Remove programs and select IE6 and click the remove button. You are given the option to Reinstall, Repair or reinstall the IE version before IE6. Choose the repair.

Well, that's a 5% improvement on what you said on Monday :

I can't think of anything else other than installing 98 over itself, which I've never been very happy with.
Perhaps, as you said, it's time to retire the PC. You can buy a reasonable machine for under £500.
