My PC won't go into standby anymore

Hi all,when i first got my PC i set up the power saver options to go in to standby after an hour of it being idle,now it will never do this,i've tried numerous times adjusting the settings but still no joy.Is there any advice somebody could give me to resolve this issue.My operating system is windows XP.
