I worked out how to open Reader in a table cell in my form using ActiveX (see thread below) but I still can't see how to pass parameters like 'displaying bookmarks'. If anyone can offer advice I would appreciate it.

All I would say is that a lot of people still do not trust Active X, and block it accordingly...

I have to admit to being very naive when it comes to website security. Are you saying that if I use ActiveX to load Reader that it can be used by other folk to get things into anyones PC that opens that page on my site, or have I got the wrong end of the stick

The debate is wide ranging and long running, and is far from over. Unfortunately, AFAIK, Active X has been seen as the popular choice of ne'er-do-wells when it comes to security breaches via web site software.
There's a lot of information, opinion and conjecture out there regarding the issue. You could start by having a read through this page (which may, or may not, shed some light).
Having said all that it does tend to be the net savvy that take precautions with all script languages, and it's probably safe to say (though not necessarily flattering) that your average surfer is unaware.

Hi TheFatConroller
Thanks for the pointer - it was somewhat alarming. Although not completely safe, if I am reading it right they just about come out in favour of Java script so I will investigate using it. Are there any other basic web site design considerations re security that I should get to know
Thanks once again
Keith

Just as a coda to this query Keith, I noticed this today;
Flaws in ActiveX controls are being increasingly used to run security exploits..

Hi Fat Controller
So far I have failed to get any advice on Java script so for the moment I have had to use ActiveX so that I can get input on layout and content. If you can point me to some Java scripting help I would appreciate it. If you are interested to take a look, the current test site is
http://homepages.tesco.net/keithhowell/tempweb2/index.htm
For the moment I have piggy-backed it into my old version. I know it's a stringful but being on Tesco.net I am stuck with it, and please be patient while the PDF's load
If you have any thoughts, criticisms etc please let me know
