Slow page loading
      #367715 - Tue Oct 09 2007 12:11 PM

Hi,I have a problem on my website which has recently reared its ugly head, this being one of my pages(Fixtures page) when I first open it takes ages to load, once I leave the page and go back its OK. All the other pages load quickly except this one, I thought that it might be the information ticker causing the problem but I have another ticker on my News page and there is no problem with that page. I updated with a newer version of Java but the problem didnt appear until a week or so later so I suspect it wasnt that that caused the problem. Strangly a friend told me on Sunday that when he leaves the Fixtures page his computer closes down ???
I have carried out a Virus check which was negative, any ideas would be welcome. Regards Tom
PS my site is www.poyntonjuniorfc.co.uk

Animated gifs are notorious for slowing down page loading.
Try removing them - most people find them irritating anyway.

Hi KenJ.
Thanks for your suggestion but I have a lot more animated arrow gifs on the Miscellaneous page and it loads quickly as did the Fixtures page until recently so I think its something other than the Gifs.If I dont get any other suggestions I might consider changing the Gif links to something more static. Cheers Tom

The 'fixtures' page loaded very quick for me with no problems.

I found that the fixtures page loaded fine too.

I steer clear of Java and also block it on my browsers.

The problem is that it can be easily used to write malicious code. So many other people block it too.

Java can also be very slow to download even on broadband connections, which means visitors, who don't have it blocked, will go elsewhere.

All the best - Duncan
