help with new laptop and getting connected to existing isp

Hello, I hope you kind people on this forum can advise me what I 'm doing wrong. I bought a new laptop today and am trying to connect it to my existing broadband "virgin" and I cannot get connected. Please can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong. I tried installing the software for the thomson speedtouch to no avail. thanks for any advice shrewdal

Didn't you get a cable modem with an ethernet cable from Virgin?

If your new laptop uses the Vista OS, you will need updates from here . . . >> For use with the SpeedTouch 330/USB Modem

Note: Important information regarding the un-installation of current Speedtouch drivers

Hope this helps if you are using 'Non Cable' Broadband opposed to Cable.

thanks fusion for your reply and the links I found them really helpful. Now I know where I'm going wrong as I have speedtouch 330 and this only supports 1 computer so I need a router. thanks shrewdal
