Connected to wireless but webpages won't load
      #366474 - Tue Sep 25 2007 11:48 PM

I am trying to use a Belkin Pre-N F5D8230 router to connect wirelessly via the virgin media modem. The router shows that is it receiving the wireless signal (connected to modem via ethernet cable). I can sucessfully connect to the wireless connection with full signal strength but when i try to access a web page it won't load.

Following phone calls to both virgin and belkin i have had no progress - does anyone have any thoughts about what the problem could be?

Thanks

Go into the router settings pages by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser.

Does it have a Status menu? Does it say if the internet is connected?

On the router's setting page it says that the status is not connected. Ive tried restoring to the factory default and inputting the DNS address given to me by virgin but still no luck.

You shouldn't need the DNS address. It should be set up to connect by DHCP.

Does it have a setup wizard to go through? Cable connections are usually one of the easiest to set up as you don't need a username and password.

I've used the Belkin 'easy install wizard' and it gets most of the way through the set up and then says that it can't communicate with the router properly. I have also tried another router (Rangebooster N 650 router) and using the set up for that router i get the same problem.

Any more ideas?

Does the internet work if you connect the modem directly to the computer?

When you connect to the router, make sure the ethernet cable is connected from the modem to the WAN/Internet port on the router.

The internet works when the computer is connected directly to the modem via an ethernet cable.

When im connecting to the router i have all the correct cables set up, ethernet from modem to WAN/Internet port on router and then ethernet cable from router LAN port to computer networking port.

If the setup wizard isn't finding an internet connection and it works fine when the modem is connected directly, I'd suspect the router is faulty.
