I have a compaq fax card and an internet card and the wires that plug into them. I had a go with belkin wireless networking but that didn't seem to work. atm im trying to connect to my phone line but it keeps asking what number i want to connect to. please could you tell me how i connect to the internet and what i need as im only a young beginer.

You say it's a new laptop. I find that hard to believe if it's running Windows 2000. It must be at least 3 years old I would think.
I assume you are trying to connect to the internet. Does your telephone line have broadband installed? If not you will need to use a dial-up connection and whoever pays your telephone bill will need to give permission for you to do so as it will cost money. Do you have that permission?
I need an exact description of the cards you say you have. I presume they are PCMCIA cards which slot into the side of your laptop. What do they have written on the front of them?

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
