Internet in tandem...
      #366095 - Fri Sep 21 2007 05:27 PM

Ok I'm dragging my feet on Broadband...today someone mentioned they had gone with Sky's Broadband and found it very good and that problems that were talked of initially appear to have been ironed out and as she said, it's all in with your package at no extra charge. So basically it's free...

So the thought crossed my mind and this may seem silly but can you run two internet companies on one computer?

I'm thinking I like the company I am with but it does mean finding extra money per month to use broadband and even now on dial up it's costing £13. That will rise by £5 within 6 months.

Of course it ties me in still further with Sky and I am thinking when Freesat launches next year of switching to it and getting rid of Sky so money saved from paying subscription to them could pay for my broadband with the ISP I am with already or I could go with another one. As the BBC/ITV satellite system is offering tv channels for free and I suspect when up and running it will become very popular and other channels if given a better deal may move over from Sky. But that's something for the future...

For now some companies alter the conditions and cap how much you can download or upload and sometimes talk of fair use. I was thinking perhaps I could keep my dial up as is(or still decide to go broadband with my present ISP at some point)but also have Sky's internet service because, it's there and its free so it's not costing anything for me to say yes. And it would mean if one or both change their policies on useage I could take advantage of having access to both.

After all if one is being given for free. why not?

Any ideas?

Is this is as daft as it sounds? Or not possible?

You can certainly have more than one Broadband supplier but not on the same piece of telephone wire so you would need to look at alternatives such as cable or satellite. You can have Broadband and a dial up connection at the same time but you won't be able to use both at the same time on your PC. Sky internet uses a BT line and you can't have a second broadband connection on that piece of wire.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
