When I use my router to connect to the internet I can download data, but cannot upload, my e-mail gives me the same problem, I can receive mail but cannot send. When I connect to a wired modem there is no problem. My router is a Belkin F5D7630-4 I have tried updating the firmware, changing the DNS settings and anything else I have read on here and other sites all to no avail. I did manage to get it running as it should for awhile, but the problem returned when I restarted my laptop. Any Ideas? Cheers!!

Check your firewall settings. Your wireless connection may be blocking anything outbound through the firewall.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Thanks for the reply mate but I have tried disabling both router and software firewalls to no avail. When I lose the ability to upload, the only way I can resolve the problem is to reset my router to the factory settings, then change them back to the settings I have been using and it seems to give me my upload capabilities back for another short time? This has really got me stumped, I don't wanna fork out for another router to find I am still gonna have the same problems!!

I am running with Eset NoD32 Antivirus system v 3.0.414 It was also happening with the package I was using before (NoD32 v 2.70 + Kerio Firewall v 4.2.3) I don't wanna change my a/virus package unless I really have to as NoD32 is one of the best I have come across Al

Go to Start > Run and type cmd
In the command prompt, type ping www.bbc.co.uk
Do you get a reply from each packet of data?

Yeah I get 4 replies, but I would have hoped for that as at the moment I can upload fine, it's the inconsistency that is the problem. Every time I reboot I have to alter my settings as mentioned above. (Thank you for showing an interest in this problem by the way!!) Al

Can you upload OK when connected directly to the modem? I have heard of a few people experiencing problems with Talk Talk modems.

If I wire my notebook up to a modem, I have no problem at all, the problem just seems to occur when I am using my wireless router, therefore I can't see the problem being with Talktalk, whether the problem lies with a compatibility issue with the router and talktalk is another story however? Any thoughts?? Cheers Al

I guess that narrows it down to the router then. Have you tried addding your computer's ip address to the DMZ, or forwarding ports?

Have thought about the DMZ option Richie, but wouldn't that leave me open to hacking attacks? I think I prefer to limp along with the "reset" option every time I have to restart my pc, rather than risking the possibility of being a target. Cheers

It's more of a workaround than a solution, but neither way is ideal really. You'll either have to live with it or get a new router.

Well at least I have confirmed, with your help, that a new router probably is required, I just wanted to exhaust all the other possibilities before shelling out on one. Thanks again for all your help mate, it has been appreciated. Al

Hi, don't bin that router yet!!. I too had major issues with a Belkin F5D7630uk4A wireless modem router. I found it would work for about 10 minutes and then refuse to display web pages (even though wireless link was very good). A router reboot fixed things for another 10 minutes or so. Tried a Belkin firmware update and worked a little better 20 - 30 minutes, but still not happy. Talk talk std router maintained connection fine, but it's not wireless!!
Finally after some digging about on the Internet, I found this is the same hardware as an SMC7804WBRA. Tried the 0.84 (UK) firmware for this and some definite improvements. Connection maintained but very slow surfing at times. Managed to find the 0.85 firmware (US SMC site) and voila!! Been connected for a week, connection fast and connection stable!!!! Link to firmware below. Password for SMC routers is smcadmin.

Thanks for the info dedward, but unfortunately I am having trouble accessing that link you posted. Pity it looked interesting.

Try this for version 0.85 of the Firmware.

Thanks I did, but it now presents me with a SMC page and is asking for a password, I never used a password for the Belkin page, so now I fear my router is "FUBB" as I can't connect with the net at all now and I am having to resort to my modem
